Valentine’s Day can be very enjoyable, but it can also be an intense and draining experience, especially if you plan on or because of different circumstances, spending it alone. It’s important to remember that just like you love & care for others, you need to love & care for yourself. Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to turn the V-Day expectation into Me Day Celebration
To help guide you give an idea of what you can do for your Me Day celebration, we’ve put together a list of ideas of things you can do this Valentine’s Day that are all about making you feel special & showing you just how amazing you really are.
- Do something that makes you happy
This seems obvious but it’s not as easy- especially on Valentine’s Day – to get caught up in what you’re expected to do rather than what you want to do. So think about what would make your day really special for you. Spending the day in bed with a special someone? A 4 hour marathon of Your favorite tv show? Prep for your classes the day before to give yourself some extra time in bed? The point is that what you do should make you feel accomplished and happy at the end of the day. - Spoil yourself
This ties into doing things that make you happy but not just feeling happy. Spoiling yourself should make you feel rejuvenated. Put on a face mask, take a long bath, order yourself dinner, take yourself on a date to the cinema. What’s that thing you’ve been longing to do for ages but haven’t found the time for? Do that! - Appreciate yourself
Spend Valentine’s Day learning to appreciate all the amazing things about you. Maybe you love the curve of your hips , or the fact you’ve got really good at singing this year, or your killer essay scores, or the way you helped out a friend last week, or maybe you’re just really happy that you make it out of the bed each day. Whatever it is, be proud of what you’ve achieved & who you are! - Open Your Third Eye
Our society tends to stigmatize spending time by yourself. Loners are weird and talk to themselves, right? That is a myth. The ability to be alone without feeling lonely is something we should all strive for and the surest way to get there is by practicing yoga. Tune into your body and breath and relax. - Breathe and Breathe Deeply
Find an essential oil or natural scent that you love and find ways to cloak yourself in it and quiet your mind. Lavender lotion, a lemon scent candle, or some essential oils dabbed on your temples are great zero calorie ways to feed your senses and add some loving kindness to your day. - Digital Detox
Do you really need to hear the chimes and rings every time an email lands in your inbox? Turn off as many of those noisy beeps as you can on your devices and experience the joy of not being pulled off-task every time somebody else has a thought pop up. - Do something that makes you smile every day
Figure out what it is and make it routine. If you haven’t had your smile fix already today, go find it now. Don’t forget to share it with someone. - Get a Helper’s High
Did you know that there is such thing as a helper’s high and that altruism can actually reduce stress? Try spreading a little love by setting the goal of giving at least one unexpected compliment, appreciation, or random act of kindness every day. Feel the glow of watching others’ light up and seeing them feel lighter. - Breathe Life Into You
We tend to see and notice only what is front of us. If you are endlessly focused on your perpetual to-do list, you may find that you are always feeling a bit overwhelmed . Collect “things that went well today.” Start listing three things a day. They might be hard to find at first, but as your brain gets used to looking for them, you’ll probably start seeing them all over the place. - Sing Yourself Silly
Even if you are not good at singing. Music can shift your mood without you having to lift a finger. Create a playlist that makes you happy, perks you up or plain relaxes you. Apply liberally. - Be Open to Receiving
Sometimes having a great day or being on the receiving end of a ton of goodness can be as simple as being open to it. And you might be surprised how many tough cookies are better at giving than receiving. Let the compliment land and don’t deflect the kind words or minimize your accomplishments. Let them in and allow them to warm your heart.
- Compare Yourself to You
Most of us have someone in our lives for whom everything seems perfect, & it can be really disheartening when you compare your life to theirs. However, it’s important to remember that, just like you probably don’t tell everyone when you’re struggling, they probably don’t either. We all go through tough times; everyone has their own path to follow. So are you. Don’t beat yourself up for not reaching an ideal that belongs to someone else
We hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day, whether you choose to spend it alone, with a loved one, or with your friends.
