Chronic Illness Adjustment

A chronic or serious diagnosis changes more than your medical chart. It reshapes your daily rhythm, your identity, your relationships, and your sense of what the future holds. Chronic illness adjustment counseling is a place to grieve what's changed, build sustainable ways to cope, and stay connected to yourself and the people who love you — not just to your diagnosis. Alexia works with patients and family members alike.

Adjusting to a New Diagnosis

Support through the shock, grief, and life reorganization that follow a serious diagnosis.

The weeks and months after a diagnosis can feel like emotional whiplash — appointments, decisions, and information overload on top of fear about what this means for your life. It is normal to feel scared, angry, foggy, or strangely 'fine' one day and undone the next.

Together we'll slow things down, sort through what you're actually feeling, and build a foundation to stand on while you figure out this new chapter — at whatever pace fits you.

Coping, Pain & Daily Life

Practical tools for pain, fatigue, flares, and the emotional weight of living with a chronic condition.

Living with a chronic illness means making a hundred small decisions a day — about energy, activity, food, medication, and what to say yes or no to. Over time, that weight adds up, and it's easy to slip into cycles of overdoing, crashing, and guilt.

We'll build coping tools that actually fit your life — pacing, boundary skills, nervous-system regulation, and self-compassion — so you can protect your energy for what matters to you.

Identity, Work & Relationships

Rebuild a sense of self that isn't defined only by your illness — and tend the relationships that carry it with you.

Chronic illness can quietly rearrange your career, your role in your family, your friendships, and your sense of who you are. You may be renegotiating how much you work, what you can still do, and what you want your life to be built around now.

In sessions we'll make space for grief about what's changed while also actively rebuilding — the parts of you that are still very much here, the goals that still matter, and the relationships worth protecting.

Support for Family & Caregivers

Care for the people caring for a loved one with a chronic or serious illness.

When someone you love is living with a chronic illness, you're on the journey too — often quietly, without the same acknowledgement or support. Caregiver exhaustion, anticipatory grief, and guilt about your own needs are real, and they deserve care.

Family and caregiver sessions give you a place to be honest about how hard it is, protect your own well-being, and stay connected in your relationship without disappearing into the caregiving role.
