Abuse Counseling

If you've experienced abuse — whether recently or long ago, in childhood or adulthood, from a partner, family member, or someone you trusted — you deserve care that meets you with safety, patience, and no judgment. Abuse counseling with Alexia is trauma-informed and paced by you. We move only as fast as your nervous system can handle, and every step is yours to choose. You do not have to have all the words, all the details, or all the answers to begin.

Safety First & Getting Started

How therapy begins when you're still in an unsafe situation — or newly out of one.

If you are currently in danger, please call 911 or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 (text START to 88788). You can also chat with an advocate at thehotline.org. Advocates are free, confidential, and available 24/7.

Therapy can begin whether you are still in the relationship, planning to leave, recently out, or years past it. Our first sessions focus on safety, stabilization, and understanding what you're carrying — never on pressuring you to make a decision on someone else's timeline.

Domestic & Intimate Partner Abuse

Support for people experiencing — or recovering from — abuse in an intimate relationship.

Abuse in a relationship is rarely just physical. It can be emotional, verbal, financial, digital, sexual, or spiritual. It often builds slowly, mixed with love and moments of tenderness, which is exactly what makes it so disorienting. If you've been questioning your own perception, memory, or worth, you are not alone — and it is not your fault.

Together we'll name what has happened, rebuild trust in your own reality, and support you in whatever direction is safest and right for you.

Childhood Abuse & Complex Trauma

Healing from abuse or neglect that happened long ago and still shapes daily life.

Abuse and neglect in childhood — physical, sexual, emotional, or the neglect of being unseen — often shape the nervous system, self-worth, and relationships for decades. You may notice patterns of hypervigilance, people-pleasing, difficulty trusting, harsh self-talk, or feeling 'too much' or 'not enough' no matter what you do.

Trauma-informed therapy is not about forcing you to relive the past. It's a careful, paced process of understanding how you learned to survive, gently updating those responses, and building a self that feels safer to live inside.

Sexual Abuse & Assault

Confidential, paced healing after sexual abuse or assault — recent or long ago.

Healing after sexual abuse or assault is not linear, and there is no 'right' way to feel. You may be dealing with flashbacks, shame, numbness, difficulty with intimacy, or a body that reacts before your mind catches up. All of it makes sense given what your body and mind have been through.

In our work, you are always in charge of what you share and when. We'll use trauma-informed tools to help you feel safer in your body, gently process what happened, and reconnect with the parts of your life the abuse tried to take from you.
