Co-Dependency Counseling
Signs of Codependency
How to recognize codependent patterns in yourself or a relationship you care about.
Codependency often hides behind qualities we're taught to admire — being helpful, loyal, self-sacrificing, easy-going. Underneath, it can look like constant worry about being abandoned, staying in relationships where you feel mistreated or unseen, and a deep sense that you cannot function on your own.
Naming the pattern is the first step. Once you can see it clearly, you can begin to make different choices — starting with the small ones.
Common signs to look for
- Persistent fear of being abandoned or alone.
- Staying with people who mistreat, dismiss, or disrespect you.
- Feeling responsible for other people's feelings, choices, or moods.
- Difficulty identifying what you want, need, or feel.
- Over-giving, over-explaining, or over-apologizing.
- Losing yourself — your interests, friendships, or goals — inside the relationship.
