Grief & Loss Counseling

Chronic Illness & Anticipatory Grief

Support for the grief that comes with a life-changing diagnosis — yours or someone you love.

A chronic or serious diagnosis brings its own kind of grief. You may be grieving your health, the plans you had, the version of your future you were expecting, or the role reversals that come with caring for someone you love. This is called anticipatory grief, and it is very real — even before any 'official' loss has happened.

In therapy, we hold space for what's changing, help you find language for it with the people in your life, and build coping tools for the harder days.

Common threads

  • Grieving the body, energy, or independence you used to have.
  • Caregiver exhaustion, resentment, and guilt about that resentment.
  • Communicating with family, medical teams, and your workplace.
  • Making decisions about treatment, care, and end-of-life wishes.
  • Finding meaning and moments of joy alongside the hard reality.
